About Martha

A Native Texan, Martha Sherman comes from a family who encouraged independent thinking, education, a love of the land and of the visual arts, it was only natural she create art. Martha was born in Corsicana, Texas and raised in Arlington, Texas.

Martha attended The University of Texas in Austin earning a BFA in visual arts and certification to teach in Texas. Martha taught in Corpus Christi at CCISD, Del Mar College (adjunct), and at CCSU (adjunct) now Texas A&M at Corpus Christi. She later moved back to her home town in Arlington and taught at Carter Junior High School and at James Bowie High School. After 30 years of teaching Martha and her husband decided that she would retire to follow her early desire to spend her time creating art. Martha and her family relocated to the hill country in Boerne.

Since settling in Boerne she has divided her efforts in the studio between ceramic sculpture and painting. For the past ten years, Martha, has been creating ceramic sculpture with an emphasis on native birds and animals of Texas.

As a family Martha loves sailing, combing the Texas coastal beaches, camping, birding and visiting national parks, especially Big Bend. You will find those interests, influence and become the focus of her work whether it be sculpture or painting.
